I've heard this is great stuff for painting a frame. I am thinking of trying this stuff out on my truck. Anybody ever use this stuff before? Does it work well? Any complaints? I see its almost 100 bucks per gallon. I imagine I wire brush the frame.. then follow the instructions? (degrease, metal-ready, then paint) Any inputs are greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Good stuff but for half the price ($50/gallon) you can use Zero Rust and not have to deal with all the hassles of Por-15.

ZR works !! I'm not going to go into any great detail. Each time I do, someone jumps on the Por-15 wagon and starts swearing how great it is.
You can use whatever you want. I'm just going to say ZR works as well (if not better) than Por-15 and at half the cost. Besides, you can get ZR in rattle cans. rant off
I agree that when you paint a car 90% of your time should be in prep work and 10% painting. My friend and I repainted his Ford Taurus. It took us awhile because of school but after we sanded the entire car to almost bare metal on the trunk, hood and roof and to the fist layer of primer on the rest the paint went on in only a couple of hours. It was a great experience and didn't turn out half bad for being done by a couple of kise in their garage.
Hey guys! I wouldn't spend the money on either product, unless I was sure the entire frame really needs it. Both products, you don't need to remove all the rust, which is nice. A wire brush and a scraper to get off the flakes and such should be enough. If you are going for detail, then forget the POR 15 and the ZR and have the frame bead-blasted and go with a good primer and Eastwood frame paint. It all depends on what you want the final product you want. Putting floor or bottle jacks under the frame to raise your rig, will crack the paint. The ZR and the POR 15 are very tough and won't crack as easily.
Good luck with the prep, and if you get the chance, post some pics! Talk with you guys later....
Would you recommend putting this stuff down on an old rusty bed off a truck. I wirewheeled most odf the surface rust off, theres just remains of what was there. I am planning on getting it line-x ...
Hey CHACH and welcome to FTE!
I would use the Line-X by itself. If you put the POR-15 on it, the Line-X may not adhere properly. If the area is dry and cleaned as best as can be, it should hold up ok. If not, then you'll have just one coating to be concerned with and a bit more wire brushing may be all thats needed.
Good luck and let us know the results. Talk with you later....
Hey guys, thanks for the reply. Well, its never gonna be a frame-off restored truck.. I plan on putting it to work now and then. Someday I'll get it painted! Thanks for the comments on POR-15. Sounds like it will do what I need. I am looking forward to getting it all painted! It'll change the look of my truck and protect my frame at the same time..
