Leaky C6 Trans
To change the filter you don't need to take the valve body apart :P
I'd change the filter on the table just cuz..... I'm sure you've noticed by now, the valve body will leak way more fluid than you'd think possible, so be wary about flipping it over and more will gush out randomly.
The valve body to transmission (3/8 head) bolts are 100inch lbs. The rest are listed below in a picture I took.
If you don't have an inch lb torque wrench just get them tight with a nut driver, or a speed wrench. Under tightening isn't a massive issue, just don't get crazy over tightening them.

I'm having the same issue and reading this thread has me wondering - if it's the O-ring on the kickdown linkage, which (to me) would be the last line of defense, so to speak, wouldn't that mean that there is a leak further in? Meaning the seal at the shifter linkage? For my sake, I'm hoping my leak is the outer O-ring. But if it is, I'm afraid that means the inner seal is also bad to allow fluid to get to the outer O-ring. Unless, this is by design.
From what I read, it doesn't sound all that bad to change out either, but, I'd only like to do what's necessary to stop the leak. So, far I've done all the work on my truck to get it running again, but, I've never worked on a transmission before, so the thought of opening mine up, scares the bee-g-sus out of me.

I have a '75 F250, FE390 w/ a C6. There is transmission fluid slowly leaking from the linkage on the transmission where the shifter levers attach. Is there some kind of seal that might have failed? It's the area highlighted with light in the photo.
Also, there seems to be some sort of plug next to the linkage, I tried to tighten that in case it was loose and the source of the fluid, but didn't make a difference. What is that plug for?
you may want to loosen it and torque it to proper setting, if you messed with it.
