8.8 Gear Install - Pattern Advice?
These two patterns are my first two, and they didn't seem to change much to me. Not sure where to go from here.
Background info:
1988 8.8 with Ford Racing 3.73 gears. All new everything. (Originally had water in the diff, and ruined everything. Sat for years, and am just getting back on the road now. So all new bearings, gears, shims, everything.)
Attempt 1: (First two photos)
Pinion shim at .027
Backlash at .010
Attempt 2: (Last two photos)
Pinion shim at .030
Backlash at .008
Both attempts seem to have the pattern heavy on the heal side for drive, and toe for coast, and a little high on the tooth. If I understand right, I need to go thicker on the pinion shim to bring it closer to the ring gear, and that should bring the pattern down towards the root, right?
Thanks again for any help!
