9" ring gear pattern.....?

How often are you able to get a text book gear pattern....? I'm installing used ford gears and with .010" backlash I have not been able to find a shim combo that gives a symetrical pattern on both coast and drive sides....I have decided to consentrate on face/flank depth and concentrate on the coast side pattern....what do you think....?

Normally you can't get a used gear set to pattern correctly simply because the gears have worn in to whatever it was set at first (which may not have been dead on anyway). All you can do is get the drive side pattern decent, get the backlash set and not worry to much about the coast side. If it's got a little whine, understand it may have been noisey in the other car.

If the old gear set had bad bearings and you replaced the bearings then chances are you will never get the same wear pattern again. One thing to keep in mind is the used gear set may have had a back lash of more than .010 because they had worn in or down how ever you wish to look at it. The point is that .010 BL on the used gears may be a bit to tight. have you tired increasing the BL and check the wear pattern?
