weigh safe solutions

Im done with all the play in my weigh safe hitch. It makes so much rattle, grooves, and moves too much. I understand its a ford receiver thing and not a weigh safe thing but I just want it fixed. I have tried different types and shims and they fall out or come loose in a couple days.

What about doing this. When you remove the pin you can push the receiver further in about another 1 1/4. That is the point were the hitch starts to taper and begins to wedge itself. What about then marking the location the pin would go by using the holes in the truck receiver and drilling the hitch for this location.

It looks like the new hole in the hitch would only have about 1/4 material between the holes and slightly lower due to angle change of the hitch binding.

It would also put more material in the truck and shorten the length overall.

Has anyone done this yet?

Sounds good to me. If I'm reading it right your just drilling into the spacer, or adapter or reducer, what ever you call it. It doesn't seem it would hurt anything. Go for it and let us know how it comes out.

I have been shimming my adapter with JB weld it has helped quite a bit, I need to add a little more to make it tighter.

Are you leaving it in when not using it? If so, take it out and put it under your back seat when not in use. The silence will be deafening. I realize some folks like to use a hitch as an "accessory" to dress up their truck so this is less than ideal for them. But, it's really a quick and painless way to make the issue go away.

This guy has figured out the secret. With a load on it the hitch is silent. When you unhook, stow the hitch. Also keeps you from having to fight with a lock as it's stored safely in the cab of the truck.

Why(?) is Weigh Safe even mentioned? Seems to elude to WS as the issue but, the fix is with the Ford hitch. Apples and Oranges. Blaming the Airliner for the Air Turbulence encountered......

LMAO!!

I have noticed this with mine as well. I do like the idea about re-drilling a new hole. Please let us know how it works out.

Ball is loose in the holder, holder is loose on the hitch, hitch is loose on the truck.. All part of the design so you don't have to fight with it. I don't hear anything when a trailer is loaded on it..

P.S. I don't drive with the hitch mounted and no trailer.

hope this helps...

You guys must have crazy tuned ears. I just don't hear the "hitch" when I'm towing a trailer. All I hear back there is the trailer ramps, the springs & shackles, the entire trailer bouncing, etc. I hear all things trailer and maybe some of that sound is the hitch but I've just always assumed that comes with the territory. I also remove the hitch when not towing so nothing to hear then either.

I stow mine as well most of the time when not towing (and won't be towing in a day or two). I'm not sure how anyone would hear it from the cab anyhow? Unless you ride around in silence just trying to pick out a rattle to complain about online...
