What is everyone using in the receiver as a hook / shackle hitch etc to couple to a recovery strap? Anyone found something with a 2.5 or 3" shank that could be used without the reducer inserts?
I keep one of these under the back seat. It's 2 inches but I don't mind using the adapters for as often as I get this out. It takes and extra minute to use but it feels like it's an ultimate solution for strap recoveries.
Hitch ***** aren't designed for the shock loads of recovery. They can and will break off and become projectiles. I've seen it personally. There haven't actually been numerous deaths because of it.

Picked up one of these....expensive...but the machining is well done....much better than some of the ones on EBay that look like they were made with a sawzall.
Fits the 2.5". Don't like having to keep anything in the truck I don't need to...so everything is now 2.5". Rated at 18000 ...more than the 7/8" schackles I have.
If you don't have a recovery ring insert (like was posted above by Bowser) you could also slide your recovery strap loop into the receiver and put the pin through the loop.
I have a 2" recovery ring insert that I swap between my truck and ATV. It works well but it's nothing fancy and it certainly didn't cost $95. I would be surprised if I paid more than $20 for it.
