What would cause the ampmeter to stay all the way on charge even when the engine is not running? With the battery disconnected, the gauge reads in the middle like it should. Thanks.
Could it be overcharging? I'd think a battery explosion would be imminent in that case. Have you checked the voltage?
Maybe only the ammeter shunt is carrying current, and the main route is somehow disconnected?
Rear terminal with one big wire and one small wire. Everything was working prior to the new engine. I picked up a new voltage regulator today to see if that is the culprit.
Looks like you're missing a wire/connection on the far left terminal in your picture.....the one with the black little grommet around the bottom. Think it's the Stator "STA" terminal....goes to the 'S' terminal on the regulator.
Seems like you have the "low mount" alternator....top picture in post #6.
This alternator is still kicking my butt. Ammeter still bouncing around along with the headlights and every other light on and in the truck. The stator wire has never bèen used since I have owned it. Even though the alternator checked out ok at Oreilys, could it be a bad diode? Any other ideas?
