how is that ironic? isnt he saying android auto works better than car play? he's not using car play with his android.
That exactly what I'm saying. Carplay is sort of a mess and really unreliable, Siri is crap compared to Google Assistant. My wife wouldn't have cared until she saw how much better the Android implementation was, now she hates Carplay lol.
Sync3 leaves a lot to be desired for me. Last two trucks 14 & 15 (non Ford) had a better interface and phone app worked trouble free no added module or parts. Sales told me all that sync 3 did but forgot to mention that the Supper Duty did not have all the features. $61000 + gas truck and fewer features. Not bashing just disappointed.
I've rooted my phone and use a framework that lets me use Waze, it's been rock solid so far. I can even see my PIDs like EGT and other the screen through some OBD2 apps.
But the stock Google maps is awesome too. Android seems to work a lot better than iOS.
If you have the xposed framework there are some modules being worked on over at xda-developers that allow sideloaded apps, remove the 6 button restriction when moving, all sorts of stuff.
I would forewarn you though, if you aren't comfortable with android or linux ssh/shell stuff it might be worth waiting a little bit. The install and config can be a little involved while its in development and there's some bugs from time to time. Once its matured a little bit there's usually automated installers.
