Heres what im trying to do, I have a 2012 F250 with the in dash nav system, I recently installed the I pad dash kit. I left the stock in dash installed to allow me to use my back up cam if needed, but its a pain to remove the ipad every time I need to use the back up cam. My question is would it be possible to purchase a OEM or aftermarket rearview mirror with the monitor in it and hook it up to my factory cam?
. The display works well enough and is large enough to view what's important. Good for backing up trailers. Only downside is I don't think it has dimming capabilities for driving at night, but some reviews have mentioned that it doesn't seem to be an issue. I haven't had a chance to try it at night so I don't know firsthand. Still worth it in my opinion as it is one of the few I found that actually replaces the mirror and mounts to the mirror mount rather than strapping to the OEM mirror.
There is a connector in the passenger kick panel area that has the wires for the rear view camera. You could possibly use to send the signal to another device instead of the factory in dash unit.
Not sure, but there might be another location on driver's side for similar wires that send the video signal to the factory mirror with reverse camera in it.
