I'm looking for an 272 y-block engine as a replacement for the 239 which is installed in my '56 F100. The 272 would be the matching engine for that
truck. So, for originality, I'd like to get a stock 272 or rebuild 272. The 239
is running well so far, it was rebuilt in the U.S. before I bought the car and bored over with 0.8. I'd put that engine aside as a backup. I was searching the www for such engines and found three shops so far, but they either don't reply to my inquiries or sell only the block with heads but without intake manifold, water pump, pulleys, headcovers and so on.
Does anyone know a shop or someone else who's selling such an engine?
Another option was to find one who sells the parts are beeing needed to complete the block from the dealer as written above.
Rico I think you will get one if you look long and hard enough. There is not a lot of value in them because of the cost to rebuild, especially to us foreigners! I have a non-running 272 that I don't need anymore but the cost of shipping would probably not make it worthwhile. It was rusted up in one of the bores so would need overbored. The rest is complete except for no carb and broken distributor lug. Its there as an option if you need anything.
Thanks for the offer! I'll keep that in mind, maybe as a plan B to get the missing parts when I should take that rebuilt engine from one of the shops which comes without intake and so on. I'm always spending my vacation in fall in Southwest-England (Cornwall), maybe I'll make a short detour to Scotland and pick it up - no, just kidding - my wife would protest .
But shipping from Scotland would be not that expensive since they can
ship it by truck, no airshipment or container needed.
I'll keep it as an option and give You a call when I know more.
thanks for the advice! As I understand, the 292 was introduced in 1956 so it would be a matching engine as well. Does the 292 fit to my 3speed fordomatic?
Rico these are the pictures I already had. If you need anything in particular let me know. Just might take a few days because engine is stored somewhere else when I ran out of space here
$550 isn't bad at all! I was expecting that to be much higher. I come across a running, complete 272 only once in a while so this maybe this engine has your name on it! Let us know how it works out.
