Inner Fender Paint Color

Does anyone know of a good match for the inner fender factory gray color?

It's some sort of galvanized finish, isn't it?

Yup... galved for the later models.

Some have have had them powdercoated grey or grey/silver vein. You could try your choice of color plus clear coats.

I shot mine with Rustoleum 500° engine enamel.. satin black.

A fellow FTE member said " I used Rustoleum Industrial Aluminum spray paint, comes in a 33% more can. Used less than half can to do inner fenders for around $12 a can, the primer is about $8. It dries really fast, goes on thick, and never gets runs. I used Rustoleum Industrial spray paint for everything. I have painted all kinds of things like the fire walls on a 68 cougar xr7, 1956 ford, 1955 ford Crown Victoria, numerous parts, and a whole van for a friend.

It goes on really good with one coat, lots of coverage, 2nd coat has to be within an hour, or after 48 or something, I just do 1 coat. I tried other spray paint, but this is my favorite, for a rattle can job anyways. It's enamel, so it takes long time to cure. It does dull, and in a year I do expect to see rust coming out again, From Acklands Grainger."

Here are his pics, it might be a little to bright IMO?

I'm using Rust-Oleum, Metallic Paint and Primer in One, "Flat Soft Iron" spray cans. It's darker than the factory color, but looks better than the aluminum color, which is a bit to bright to me. For the underside I'm using Rust-Oleum, Semi Gloss Black.

Looks great Mike. If I can't find someone to regalvanize mine, I'll go with that paint.

Thanks. A word of caution on the regalvanizing. I looked into that and wasn't very confident that I would like the results. All the samples I saw just looked like they had been sprayed with gray primer.

I did the Rustoleum hammer paint like Mike. Turned out great in my opinion.

The shop I took my parts to for powder coating in black. I asked them about powder coating the inners in silver/for the galvanized look. They didn't want to do it. Main reason they said was they we're worried about adhesion problems and explained all the reasons why. So I just had them give it a light sand blasting to clean them up for me. Then I prepped and painted them.

Any particular reason the battery tray wasn't removed to allow for full coverage?

I'd say a bit of laziness and a lack of attention to detail .

Guess I'll have to fix that.

+2 on the Rustoleum silver hammertone. I used a cold galvanizing spray paint first but it came out looking like primer. Top coated with the silver hammertone it looks close to original if you squint.
After a year or so I bet it will look even closer.
