Theres a Canadian tire real close to my place so I'll give it a shot on my way back from the dump, thanks Muppy. I've been avoiding the Marlborough location for a year or so as they laid off most of the qualified people in the automotive section.

I was looking at the Optima's but I'm trying to keep my budget pretty low right now as I've got a short but big move happening this month Harrier

Thanks for the replies guys.

This Canadian Tire is a lost puppy paradise. You can't just walk in an by the battery as they're not labelled as to voltage and theres 3 that look basically the same, parts counter time. The kid is 3 years away from his first shave and makes the mistake of asking the year make and model of vehicle, I tell him it won't be listed and tell him what battery that I need. Dumb *** doesn't believe me so I tell him the year and he says that they only have listings to 1960 and he can't help me. I tell him it's a friggin 6 volt commercial battery and according to the online catalog he has 2 in stock. Took him about 20 minutes and a 'are you sure it's a 6 volt battery you need' to find it. My cats have more mechanical knowledge than the kid had.

In all reality, its not the kids fault, he has all the computer knowledge required by management to do the job, just none of the practical knowledge because its his first job and he was hired at minimum wage which is a management decision. What an easy way to chase customers away.

will get this critter running this weekend and post about it.

Yeah, working behind a parts counter doesn't pay much. I did that for a short time about seventeen years ago. Quitting was a good decision.

One thing to be aware of on your motor, the oil filter is the unusually tall Canadian unit. It takes a different cartridge that the typical flathead Ford filters. I don't have the number memorized but I think it was mentioned in an old thread somewhere.

edit - failed to find a part number for the Canadian cartridge. Hopefully you can match up what is in there not.

I was going thru threads about a month ago and came across that size difference 38, I'll check again to see if I can find the thread again. There may be a modernization of that part of the oiling system as the intention for this motor is to put it into a 20/ 21 Overland Touring car that will become some sort of toy. This is moving month around here but I'll get this suspension, frame and body pieced together to see what I'm working with. The truck will get a 351w or FE motor put into it as it will be a toy hauler and won't see much work.

So, its been a while since I last posted on here, amazing how a year can go past. I'm in the new place and a day after I officially moved in it switched over to winter, started to snow and got cold starting November 1st and didn't warm up, the last month of my move was the outside stuff that I had and it was 11 truck loads of pita.

Your going to have to trust me on this one, turning these trucks with a tow bar isn't fun, wound up breaking the tow bar and had to fix it in order to move my 78 F350 over. This is the last time this shop is empty, I spent all winter adding tool boxes, compressor, milling machine and all the tools and equipment from the old place. A extra wide double garage can get small real fast when you have a s load of stuff to move into it. Theres 2 things wrong with this garage, a lack of amperage that can only be fixed by getting a permit and upgrading to 200 amps plus there is a severe lack of lights. This last week has been spent cleaning up the shop enough so that I can install lights and start breaking down the truck. Finally got the build up plan for this thing figured out, it's going to be a service truck for what I need. The cab is coming off and going onto my 75 F250, a dually axle from a 89 F350 is going into it along with the spring pack from a 79 F350. I'll be building a wrecker body for it and the wrecker boom will be hydraulic so that I have the option of using my 5th wheel hitch or the in frame ball hitch that I have. The F250 would normally be to light duty a frame for wrecker use but theres lots of metal and cross members around here so upgrading the frame is easy enough. This won't be an in service wrecker, just something for personal use for when I come across a field find or if theres a find that needs to be trailered home. The 75 has a 390 in it but has an auto so I'm still looking for a 4 speed, chances are that I'll buy the whole truck that the transmission is in. If a worst case scenario happens drive train wise I'll just put in the 460 w 5 speed that I have in the 78 in the 75 and do that. Theres 3 hydraulic systems around here, 2 are pto driven and one is electric driven so I have options on what to use.

Started breaking down the 48 today, everything is coming apart okay but space is a real premium around here so the sheet metal has to go outside for a few days but the motor and transmission are staying in the shop. Theres a lot of rust on the inside of this truck so everything is going to get wire wheeled and sprayed with rust converter before it goes back into the shop.

This phone has a good flash but this is before lights

No more staggering around in the dark, the other side of the shop gets done when the 48 is out of the shop and I have some room to finish sorting this place out.

Its nice to be able to see what I'm doing

I got the pool table at the auction for $10 and it included all sorts of accessories, its already paid for itself as I sold off a set and a half of ***** for $20 during a yard sale, theres another table in the yard and it cost $5. Everything is easy to come apart as the guy who put it together was in his late 70s and was losing his strength. The body work is rough but theres no holes or serious damage to the metal so it should straighten out okay.

The inside of the fender is my big rust but its not as bad as it could be

It took about 2.5 hours to get this far, doing this strip down was my reward for doing 5 hours of clean up today.

So I guess this is the official start of this rebuild thread.
