hi all im coming to california in june and am hoping to pick up a few parts for my truck can anyone recommend any dismantlers parting these trucks out .i need a catch/lock for the bedside toolbox among other bits there is nothihg available here in new zealand
Jimmy:
Turner auto wrecking in Fresno is the largest dismantler, specializing in older vehicles, that I'm aware of. Accordingly, their prices will reflect their awareness that vintage parts can command a premium. Check their website...amazing, about 1000 acres! They can also tell you by phone if they have what you're looking for, as can most yards, so you don't spend so much time searching. Most of the smaller (cheaper) dismantlers here in the central valley who had a good stock of old vehicles are gone. The other thing to consider is that the dismantlers are good places to find large parts like chassis, suspension, sheet metal and those would be the hardest parts for you to take back with you. Let me know if I can be of any assistance.
IMO, Central Ca. likely will have more of a selection when it comes to early model trucks?? resonateur listed couple options; there's also 'Pic n Pull' offer a 'vehicle finder' website, enter vehicle info, buyer's zip code and they provide a list of vehicles that match, and map of the salvage site.
Posting website as example only. Depending upon where in Ca. U intend visiting, suggest select zip codes for along the route and run a 'vehicle finder', before leaving.
Thanks for the replies I'm coming for 3 weeks I intend to buy another truck to drive around and fill up with parts then send it home .I'm looking to get disc brake conversion and power steering among other things so it maybe I should look for a later donor truck to dismantle
