160 MPH speedometer for a 1966 F series??

I got a hold of this in a batch of flathead parts. It's a 1966 speedo alright - part number C6TZ-17255-F. I can't find it in the corresponding Ford Truck parts book.

as anyone ever seen one? What could have been the reason? I don't think the cop car speedos went that high.

This speedo was not used on any car.
There's no such part number of C6TZ-17255-F where did you find it?

If the number is marked on the back of the speedo, it may be ID engineering number C6TA or C6TB or C6TF-17255-F

The round speedo was used on 1961/66 F100/1100 & C Series Tilt Cabs; 1961/67 Econoline; 1963/69 N/NT500/1100; 1966/77 Bronco; 1967/69 F800/1000.

Curious.

The number came off the box it was in.

Any guesses as to the reason for a 160 mph speedo on a truck?

It could be from a 1966/74 Bronco, but there is no C6TZ-17255-F speedo part number listed in the 1964/72 Truck or 1965/72 & 1973/79 Ford Passenger Car parts catalogs (where Bronco parts are listed).

1975/77 Bronco speedo reads to 100 MPH

With a 1966 part number prefix (C6TZ), it could have been originally for a 1966 Bronco.

Some people assume that with a T in the part numbers prefix, that the part fits only a truck.

Awhile back, a clueless ebay seller listed a C6TZ-18813-A antenna kit, said it fits 1966 F100. BS! It's for for a 1966/77 Bronco.

I couldn't find it in mine either.

I find that happens a lot. I have a shelf of cluster gears tagged 8L-7113. Can't find that part number nor can I find any gear that matches the tooth count.

Thanks for taking a look.

8L is the part number prefix for 1949 Lincoln/Lincoln Cosmopolitan. 1949/51 Lincoln's were available with the Borg Warner T-85 Overdrive and this may be what these cluster gears are for.

I don't have a 1949/51 Lincoln Parts Catalog, but Green Sales probably does. You could call 'em and ask.

Of course. I don't know why I didn't make that connection. It's in my 1950 Lincoln chassis parts catalog.

And Mrs69 questioned my desire to hang onto ALL of these "old books".

Canadian automobiles went metric with speedometers on September 1st 1977 for the 1978 model year. 160 Km/H = 99.38 m.p.h.

Isn't the letter "Z" a speed performance part suffix? Maybe this was a NASCAR speedo and not regular production?

Yup prior to that Canada used MPH Speedos.

I would assume it is in Kilometers per hour

Wonder if it was for Mexico or further south as most of Central and South America have used the Metric system since the 19th century.

Matthew sounds like the winner! It likely was for South America as I have seen original Ford Sales ad video on youtube showing slicks down there. Quite specifically they used the unibody style box without it being attached to the cab!

Yup that's the kph speedo for Latin America. I've been looking, occasionally, for the sweep version in kph without success and conclude that one was never made.

Yup I had a look and that appears to be the case. F series production in South America is interesting. It looks like the 61-66 body style was never used in Brazil but was in Argentina In Brazil it looks like the 57-60 cab was used until 71 or so.

This means some interesting gauges clusters were available for the 57 body style.
See pics below.

1963 F100 and 1969 F100 gauge clusters
