I have not had any of these issues with my truck yet, and obviously hope I never do, so I went proactive. My '17 has seen 4 WI winters now, and after the third I noticed the grounding connections on the frame were beginning to corrode. So I pulled one off and learned a couple things. First is that the ground connection wasn't the best from the factory. The ground connector rests on a painted surface and combined with the corrosion on the steel connectors and bolts, makes for a "murky" ground connection at best. So I busted out my Dremel moto-tool and removed the paint down to the frame metal under the bolts and connectors. Then I cleaned up the bolts and connectors and applied dialectric grease to both sides of the connectors and the frame as well as the bolt threads. Bolted them back up, and then smeared some grease over the top of the bolts spilling a little over onto the frame. A year later, those spots are covered in dirt, dust etc and seem well protected from the elements. And while I was at it, I pulled every molex connection apart that I could get at and greased those right away too. So far, so good. Happy I took the couple hours or so to prevent these gremlins from haunting my truck!
I just want to chime in here.
When I bought my 2019 in May of 2019 I was reading everything I could find.
I found that the electrical connections at the rear of the frame are exposed to water from the wheels. They do not recieve dielectric grease from the factory.
Mine were clocked in such a way that the female plug faced up so that water would be trapped.
With only 1200 miles I found the plug filled with water.
Luckily no salt water.
I unplugged all the connectors along the frame and filled them with dielectric grease and clocked them so the female plug faced down so water could drain out.
I also have the rubber flooring in my Lariat. No Blis.
BUt I spilled bleach on the floor in the rear and found that all liquids drain to the door sills and from there they deposit into a main cab frame channel which also houses all the electrical harness.
To make matters worse as I tried to dilute and wash the bleach out I discoverd that whill all liquids on the floor flow into that channel... there is no drain. The water gets trapped. Think salt water from your winter feet and your wiring harness laying in it.
I aso have an F-450 mason dump and I noticed that when I hosed mud or salt out of the interior I would have electrical glitches for hours or even days afterwards.
My solution with the rinsing of the bleach was to drill straight through up near the front of the front door opening to allow water to drain out. 1/4" hole. And then I sprayed Fluid Film all over the hole to protect the exposed aluminum.
The hole drains water out but is not exposed from the bottom of the frame so you cant see it laying under the truck.
Pull your plastic sills off and look in there. Hopefully there hasnt been enough water laying long enough to actually damage anything.
I check mine and spray it all with WD40 before winter each year now.
As with the frame connections and grounds.
Good luck.
this site still amazes me almost twenty years of good info gotten from and passed on from me and all the other guys here!. havent been here in a while my new truck is running sweet so busy with other projects . anyway this morning turned truck off opened door radio stayed on should have shut off (2018 f350) then noticed dash half way on no gauge pointers, lock switches on doors dont work. put key in starts normal dash still not on all the way. let truck sit to time out 1/2 hour no change dash half way lit radio on. tried other new key fob no dice same. was gonna try batt disconnect when sun came out. started reading here to see if common problem took some digging but WAA LAA funky ground and connector issues seems right i disconected batt neg 30 seconds now both keys fuction properly !! will dive into cab channels and rear connectors later today. thanks FTE!
My dealer had my truck for 4 days and I think they figured out the problem.
I have had it back for 5 days now and have NOT had the air bag light problem at all.
Since I got it back I have put on about 700 miles and all is good.
The problem they found was a Connector in a wiring harness that is up on top of the spare tire.
The dealership ordered a replacement connector kit from Ford.
The plug is one of those Molex connector plugs that failed. Water got inside the waterproof connector and it got moldy. Apparently this harness sends information Up to the dash and radio/ heater controls.
Here is a pic
I had the same issues,I have a 2021 Ford f350 superduty ac wouldn't turn on,front power windows didn't work, radio buttons on dash didn't work ect.i found this plug and it was wet and dirty cleaned it with electrical cleaner and it fixed the problem
Symptoms:
1. Power running boards don't deploy
2. Passenger window doesn't work
3. Passenger mirror doesn't fold in/out
4. Air Conditioner doesn't work
5. No audio controls work
6. Screen comes on but temperature gauge is just dashes
7. BLIS Fault
8. Cross Traffic Fault
9. Airbag light stays on
Only common symptom is that it does it in the afternoon on hot days - like a module is hot.
The dealer can't figure it out - been twice. Plus they act like they don't even care to figure it out. Have given it back twice like this. Major safety issues here.
Anyone else have this problem or ideas?
Yes same issues except my is happening in winter time when it’s raining or a lot of moisture around I was told to check electrical connector near
spare on the frame for water intrusion and add dielectric grease on those type of connections hope that works as I’m going to try it on my ford
