First time ever hard start: Fluke or indicator of bad things to come?
First morning start, cranks well, but doesn't fire. Recycle glow plugs and crank ten seconds - same thing. Repeat and one little fire. Repeat and it starts with a huge exhaust filling garage that smells like raw diesel. Runs well, and a dozen subsequent starts as I go about business - no problem. Don't have a scan tool.
What do you think? Pending problem?

A.M. temp-40; DP Tuner set on stock; fuel 1/2; fuel press. #70;
Thanks

To happen suddenly like that and temps around 40 I'd suspect and investigate the glow plug relay first. There are a few things you can do there. You can jump the two large lugs on the GPR with a big screwdriver for about a minute before your morning start and see if that helps. After turning the key on you can use a multi-meter across those two big lugs and see what it reads. It should read little or nothing, the higher it reads the worse your GPR is. If that's not the problem then you can check other things but start there.
