There is really not enough information here, and it is a little confusing.

Are you cranking the engine for 10 minutes and then it will start, or do you try and then come back 10 minutes later and then it starts?

More than likely I would say that it is your glow plugs or controller, especially if it only does this when it is cold?

If it will start right away then die and then not stop for what feels like 10 minutes of cranking , then you are probably getting air in the system causing by a leak, it will first crank on what is in the lines and then it has to turn over for a long time to get more fuel up there.

My guess, you hear the glow plug relay clicking which probably is saying you have burnt out glow plugs.

How long does the wait to start light come on when you turn the key on?

"not start for what feels like 10 minutes of crank" Is what I meant.

But yes it does sound like your gow plugs are bad.

Be careful not to crank too long -- 20 seconds max with a two minute cool down inbetween. Otherwise, you can overheat your starter. It should start within a couple of seconds, even when cold.

If your block heater works and it starts better when it has been plugged in, then that's another sign it's your glowplug system.

Like 91f2504x4 says, one thing that would rule out glow plugs is if it starts, dies, and then takes forever to restart...

ok thanks guys sorry about the spelling im just dumb. but it will start up when i first turn it over and it will run for like 20 seconds then die. then it takes like 4 ever to start. so where should i look for my problem? and the glow plug light comes on and stays on for like 35 seconds or so then goes off.

Try.......see if your getting fuel

Take the filter header Schrader valve core out and hook a hose and pressure guage to the outlet.........crank engine see what you get for pressure, should have 4-6 psi from a good lift pump.

Volume test same place hook a hose to it crank over the engine 10 seconds you should get 1/3 pint of fuel minimum.

****Important the fuel shutoff solenoid (FSS) wire on the IP should be disconnected if you do not want a start just cranking. Re connect FSS after test complete.

Azone pressure and vacuum guage... CP7803 $25

You've got air getting in somewhere causing the fuel system to lose vacuum. It is probably either a return line problem, or a filter problem. First step would be to check the caps and orings as well as return lines on injectors and replace all of this if you have any doubt about it's condition. Also look around the fuel filter to see if there are possibly any leaks there.

With this little leak when the vehicles sits over night it allows all the fuel in your system to drain back to the tank, there is just enough fuel left in the pump and lines to start for a short bit and then it dies. After this you have to wait for your fuel pump to re-prime the entire system, which takes a quite a bit of cranking with the mechanical fuel pump.
