I'm getting very close to putting the headliner in my 50 F1. I figured before i put the finished doors on, seat install, steering wheel, and glass it might make sense to tackle this now? I've read a lot on this forum about this with mixed feedback. I'm thinking that not all of these kits are from the same place so i want to find the one that currently available that fits the best. Macs? Carpenter? LMC? Midwest Early ford?....others? I'm hoping that i can find a kit that installs nice and fits like it should. Reading all the stuff about redrilling holes, sticking under mattress to flatten, spraying water on it scares the heck out of me. So has anyone done this recently with one of the recent kits? How did it go? where the instructions any good? ..... that kind of stuff. I'll do my best to document this "event". It's time to cover up all the hammer/dolly dings on the inside from straightening the cab.
We let ours sit unrolled for about six months and it flattened out just fine . You will do better with a helper . Ours went into place in half an hour .

The 2 that seem viable to me at this point are Mac's (Cartouche brand) or Dennis Carpenter. After shipping they are within a couple dollars. LMC has them but they charge and additional $125 for truck shipping so that takes them out of the equation for me.
do you have insulation on the underside of the roof is the headliner material abs or the cardboard
Didn't buy it yet, hoping to get some advice on fit first. Likely cardboard for the 50 F1 since it's original. Wasn't considering insulation for it either unless that is recommended. I'll probably order one in the next week or so
I recommend some type of insulation between the roof and the headliner. It cuts down on noise but more importantly heat from the sun. There's a lot of stuff out there, some can be bought at a Lowe's or your local lumber yard/building materials place. Maybe even Buttorfs Hardware.

I have a roll of lightweight foil backed insulation that i was going to use for the firewall but it already had insulation on it so that would probably work well for up there.

I used something like that. Are you putting adhesive spray on and attaching the foil part to the roof?
I installed the Carpenter hardboard kit by myself. The main section (roof) took less than 10 minutes, it simply snaps into place, then you add some screws over the doors. The only trick is locating the center of roof support to put a fastener in there. Installing the pieces on my '52 around the rear glass involves cutting around the larger 51-52 window, which took more work to avoid a mistake.
You definitely want the rear glass in place before doing the headliner, it fits under the rubber.
