Intermittent P2135 Error Code

I have a 2015 Ford F150 5.0L Supercrew and occasionally I get a P2135 fault code (Throttle/Pedal Position Sensor/Switch "A"/"B" Voltage Correlation).

It always occurs after I have been driving for awhile (15 minutes or more) and if I turn off the engine, wait a minute, then turn the engine back on, the code has been cleared and the symptoms go away.

When the fault occurs, my accelerator feels sluggish. In other words, if I'm at a dead stop and I press the accelerator, it takes a split second longer than usual for the truck to start moving. Additionally, other acceleration events seem more sluggish than usual.

I took it to the dealership and they said they can't do much without an active fault code. Since the code goes away when I turn off the vehicle, I'm never anywhere near the dealership when the problem happens.

I'd say it's happened 5-6 times in the past year over about 20K miles worth of driving. Of course it started at about 37K miles, so I think this issue is out of warranty.

I'm hoping that the code is just a result of something minor (e.g. spark plugs) that I can try before replacing anything major. Thanks in advance for your advice.

This is the old procedure to recalibrate the throttle. Don't know if it works in these newer trucks.

Turn the key on, don't start it.

Wait for the check engine light to go off, depress the pedal slow and steady, then release quickly. Repeat 3 times.

Turn the ignition off.

Start the truck and drive.

This has been reported many times in the past to form up throttle response. You may want to disconnect the battery for a minute or two prior to doing this since you had a code. Turn the headlight switch on when you disconnect to ensure that any residual voltage is discharged.

This is free and easy and won't hurt anything if it doesn't work.

Thanks, I'll give it a shot and see if it reoccurs.

Unfortunately, the throttle calibration suggestion didn't help. In fact, it's now started doing it more often (once per week), although I don't think this increase has anything to do with the throttle calibration.

Today there was a new twist and a sign that it's worsening. When "it" happened (it being the check engine light, fault code, sluggishness) I was on my way to work. Usually when this happens I can drive for a few miles and although the accelerator is sluggish from a standstill, there's little indication of an issue once I get going.

Today, however, the accelerator didn't seem to function at all. I would give it gas and the truck would just coast. I was in the middle of traffic with nowhere to pull over, so I put the truck in neutral, turned off the engine, and turned it back on (all while coasting around 35 mph). When it came back on the fault code/light was still present, but the accelerator functioned again.

When I was finally able to pull over, I turned off the engine for 30 seconds, then turned it back on. The fault code/light was gone and the sluggishness was gone.

The dealer rep said that he has to see the truck in a failed state in order to troubleshoot/diagnose the issue. However, it never happens at a time when I'm able get to the dealership.

A friend suggested that I check/change the plugs. Anyone else have any suggestions?

Doubt if the truck needs plugs at this mileage, unless it has had a misfire. More likely a faulty throttle position sensor. If you can afford to be without the truck for a few days, let the dealer drive it and try to duplicate the problem, or drop what you are doing and head for a dealer with the warning is on.

Just put a new TPS on it. Not too expensive and relatively easy to do.

Thanks guys. A quick Google search for TPS issues revealed descriptions from others that sound very similar to my issue, so that might indeed be the problem. I'll give it a shot and see how it goes.
