Ford Marketing Director Speaks True Compact Truck

From automotive dot com Ford Sees Room for Compact Pickup; 2014 Ford F-150 SVT Raptor Special Edition Debuts

Ford's truck program marketing manager Doug Scott finally said what we've known all along: There is room for a new small truck to replace the Ranger. The thing is, it might not be the Ranger. "It'd have to be a true compact truck," says Scott. "It has to be clearly differentiated from the F-150 in price, size, and fuel economy." Scott says today's not-so-compact pickup trucks just don't do that.

Going into further detail, Scott said a truck that's cheap and frugal along the lines of the first Ford Ranger and Nissan "Hardbody" Truck of the 1980s is where the segment needs to head.

The true compact truck is what i want to buy and drive. I hope Ford builds it and calls it the F-75. Less is more !

So, are you saying this site has had a discussion or thread about that article?

Or do you think the subject is not relevant to an upcoming truck from Ford? It does take time to develope a new vehicle, correct? The article did say it " a compact truck" would be a few years away.

Well, it has been a few years .

It's from 4 years ago.

Here in September 2016, Scott gives NOTHING to indicate a Ranger is on the way:

What Does Future Hold for the Ford Ranger in the United States? - The Fast Lane Truck

I am looking to upgrade. I believe I can probably safely buy and wear out another brand x truck before a Ranger hits the market here.

If Ford was serious about this, it would be in the showrooms now. No issue popping out a new Raptor, no issue popping out a new Ford GT, but to certify an existing Ranger from another market? Gee, too much effort I guess.

If you can find anything from this guy or someone higher up saying the Ranger is on the way, please post it.

I believe we can agree on much in that to date , no actual carved in stone news on a smaller than F150 pickup from Ford, yet here we speak in the 2019 Ranger section of this forum. Will the year just change until a new truck comes to market?

Recall the now deleted section here about the new, upcoming F100 a few years back? That was all for nothing.

I need a new truck as well . If Ford does not soon make what i'm looking for, no doubt i'll buy from the company that does.

Yea, I don't get it either. My next decision: buy tires or trade it off....with the price of tires, it's a tough call.

The article we're referencing to is 4 years old. While Ford has been strangely silent regarding details about the next Ranger, they've all but confirmed that we are getting the global model. Economically it would be cheaper for them to bring that over and raid the parts bin for a US spec driveline than it would be to completely re-engineer a whole new vehicle. Whatever they decide to sell us, I'm interested. I really like my current F-150 but I'm realizing that I just don't need that big of a truck anymore. Parking it in the city is a real PITA!
