Receiver Hitch Fitment Under Step Bumper

Receiver Hitch Fitment Under Step Bumper
Hi all, I had been digging through earlier threads looking for a receiver hitch to fit onto my '79 F-250 2wd. From posts I had found it looked like the Class IV Curt PN:14001 would be the way to go based on what others had said and the fitment charts online.
I bought the PN:14001 and test fit it to find it hangs further below the bumper than I would like by around 2". Just curious if anyone else has recently purchased an aftermarket receiver hitch and can take a measurement for me from the bottom of the frame to the top of the receiver itself. I have seen a few that look to hang down less, but are all listed for the narrower 34" frame width.
Here are the pictures of the bumper test fit:
If I can't find one that tucks up tighter I'll have to decide whether I want to use the one I have or return it and have something fabricated, which I'd rather not do.
Thanks for any help.

I've just a year ago put the REESE 36025 on our '73 F250 2wd.

Just went out to see if it's any tighter but it looks like it's only a half inch or so better than that CURT unit you have on.

Thanks Guys,
Redcreek, looks like your bumper itself hangs much lower than mine. I'm guessing that is contributing to the receiver tucking up tighter.
Mine might look more noticable because I modified my bumper brackets to tuck it up tighter. I installed the receiver and it doesn't look terrible, just may have to modify that down the road if it bothers me.

I have one here that was on my 1979 4x4 when I bought it , it sat up close to the original step bumper . The receiver is welded right into the main crossmember of the hitch, where your receiver is underneath the crossmember. I don't recall seeing any markings on it but I will look today for you.

I got one off a 80's truck from the pull it place and mounted to my 78 250, it looks about like yours. I didn't really like it either so I used the space to mount a 5K wench between the hitch and the bumper to use the space.. I use the wench to pull my race car up on the trailer.. Works good and looks cool.

To the OP, if you have tucked your bumper, you won't find a commercially available hitch to fit tight like you want. They are all designed for stock type applications. If you hitch is one of the multi piece units, I didn't pay that much attention, you may be able to get some different side brackets fabricated to pull it up tighter. I think with a modified setup though your best bet is finding a qualified welding shop to fab a whole hitch for you to do exactly what you want. Then have it powder coated and no one will know it is custom.

Not a direct answer to your question but here is a pic of one that fits snug. It fits well with the re-pop bumper pictured and also fit well with the OE bumper. As mentioned, the receiver tube butts directly into the cross tube... not under. This hitch was added in the 70's when the truck was young.
May be worth looking in the yards for a used hitch that is similar.

Thanks for the replies everyone. I wish mine fit as snug as 9th Pony's, but that's life. I had looked at the 14062, however, was told by the company I got my hitch through that this is for the narrow frame trucks, which I imagine your '75 CC Would be.
I ended up installing the hitch anyways and once I took a step back it doesn't look terrible. If I get really ambitious I might have it modified by a local shop to tuck it up tighter, but for the mean time at least it's on there for the rare time I need to use it for actual towing. For now it is content holding my bike rack for when I want to hit the trail.
