The past 2 mornings when I first start up the truck it idles a bit high. and when I give it gas some times the throttle kicks and the truck takes off quicker then lets up. And I noticed going up a hill the fuel filter light flashes then goes away.
i haven't found any fuel leaks or anything.
could be. try changing it and see if the problem goes away. it is cheap enough to swap, and it will not hurt anything to have a fresh filter on it.
fill the filter with clean diesel, automatic trans fluid, or diesel kleen before putting it on.
When the "fuel filter" (not to be confused with the "water in fuel") light comes on,this means there is a vacuum. Most often this is due to a dirty fuel filter.
The fuel filter change interval for the 7.3l IDI is every 60k miles or whenever the fuel filter indicator light turns on.
My F250 w/ 7.3l IDI had the "fuel filter" flicker like your truck just the other day.Would flicker under load going uphill.I changed the fuel filter, got more power and no more light flicker.I'm using a finer micron filter than I had in the past (due to running a bull moose ip) so the filters work better but they only seem to last one season too.Better than the ip getting crap in it though.
My fuel filter finally showed up at the parts store today.
i filed the new filter with fuel and swapped it out. The truck only started for a brief second and now won't start at all.
I have no pressure at all costs.ing out of the Schrader valve.
It also have a new fuel last winter and was running before I swapped the filter.
What happened was,it burned out the fuel left in the IP.Now you need prime the system.
Crank for 20 full seconds.Stop and let the starter cool for at least 2 minutes.Crank for another full 20 seconds......Continue as needed.
If you have a block heater and a battery charger.........Use 'em both.
Check your oil first just for good measure. If your oil level is up over full, suspect a ruptured fuel pump diaphragm. In that case, change the oil and the lift pump.
It's possible your lift pump was failing causing your fuel light flicker. It's just that,it was more likely to be the fuel filter and most likely the system just isn't primed yet.
You need to take into account, you need to pump fuel up from the tank, into the lift pump,up into and fill the large fuel filter, then fill the ip,then the engine can fire up and run, once it expels the air.
This is why many of us have blocked off the lift pump and run electric pumps on these engines now.
