damn electrical issue
Was blown- replaced fuse- blows right away. Jumped out with a test wire....
found that 3 clearance light bulbs were out. I removed them. All other light bulbs work. with bad bulbs out- I put fuse back in- blew again right away.
Does this mean there is something else going on or does it need to have good bulbs all the way around?? Also- I am guessing it's not a good idea to drive the truck with the wire in place of the fuse...
Is your fire insurance on the truck up to date? Open all of the clearance lights to see if any of them are full of rain water. If not pull out all of the bulbs then replace the fuse. If the fuse holds then one of the bulbs is shorted.
On the earlier trucks they ran this brown wire down the driver's side pillar, and there was a plug-in connector behind the driver's side kick panel. These lights were an option, so some trucks with no lights still have that plug hanging there empty. If you can find this plug(not sure, maybe 2001 they moved it to the pass side) I would unplug the connector to disconnect that whole roof circuit, and then see if the fuse blows. You will then know it definitely is something with those lights.
The circuit your working on will be difficult to troubleshoot. Unplugging different parts of the truck will be a way to narrow it down. Ford used one brown wire circuit to feed all the marker lights front to rear, top to bottom. So the short circuit could be anywhere.
