That piece shown is used to close couple a hydraulic pump to the front of the tractor crankshaft. It is used to compensate for slight misalignment. I have seen them with very short connector shafts, couple inches.
Ross you are likely correct looking at the pic it seems much lighter in thickness. Mine is about an inch thick at the bolt holes and much heavier in the plate area. I'll check it out but will still go to the drive shaft shop as I feel I would be better off with modern type universals if possible.
I could not find that flange at the local tractor store so will have to try a few other places.
I did stop at the shop that repairs drive shafts and they think it can be rebuild it with modern universals. I just have to get the flanges off the differential and transmission and take the whole thing in. Hopefully it will work and not cost an arm and a leg.

I have no doubt a good driveline shop can modify it. If I remember right, the two piece driveshaft modification for Blue was between $300 -$400. to include three new universal joints and balance. There you go, Dave, modification to the dark side.
