I haven't really gotten under it to check this out, but my truck (see signature) has a slight vibration on take off. It only does it when the wheels are turned to the right or left. They don't have to be turned very far either. It doesn't do it on straight line take offs, or on a take off from a rolling stop. ONLY when pulling off from a dead stop and the front wheels are turned any degree to the right or left. I'm running mostly bald all terrain tires, the wheels are not bent. My current wheels are new to the truck, and the problem was there with the previous rim/tire combination. The rear end doesn't seem to have any slack in it. The transmission shifts like a top. There are no other clanks or vibrations anywhere in the drivetrain and it drives good. Any ideas?
It's not so much felt as heard. I thought at first I had a tire scrubbing, if that gives you an idea of what its like.
I haven't checked it out yet. I was leaning in the direction of the driveshaft, but wanted to make sure I'm not suffering from tunnel vision before I go poking around. (Plus its cold outside, and I'm not much of a cold weather person....)
Does your truck have a limited slip rear end? If so, that's probably the cause. The clutches inside the differential are 'chattering' a little. You can solve the issue by changing the rear end fluid and adding the correct ammount of limited slip additive.
These trucks are also known for a slight torque converter shudder on take-off as well. Nothing to be concerned about though...
Yes... please let us know if that fixes your problem. I have an '03 supercab FX4 that is doing the exact same thing. I have BFG ATs on it and at first I thought one of them was rubbing a fender or something. Sounds like I may need to change the fluid too.
I completely forgot to post up my results.... Sorry 'bout that....
I changed my fluid and cleaned out all the years of goop built up on the cover and fill plug. 75w140 synthetic is NOT the easiest fluid in the world to deal with, I'll tell ya that much. BUT, so far, so good. On dry pavement in 2wd, the problem is MUCH less noticeable. The only shuttering I've picked up lately was navigating around in the recent snow, and I think that was just the tires biting in a bit. She seems much better though. The specs call for 4 oz of the limited slip additive, but I ended up adding a bit more than that due to losing a half bottle in my attempts at filling it up. My parts guy ended up adding 8 oz to his to get his diff to disengage properly when it's supposed to.... Hope this helps...

we have a 2000 ford f150 and when we put it in 4x4 and take off there is a vibration any ideas to where to start to look for the problem and when we take it out of 4x4 the vibration goes away?
