If you have the ability to order as a fleet truck sometimes custom ordering can be done. For example if I order an xlt right now my dealer can get the led lights put on it which is normally just for certain lariat and above Trims. Not sure if every dealer can pull that off though.
See page 129 in the owner's manual; that's why I don't want the adaptive steering. It relies on an electric motor in the steering column to actually turn the wheels and sensors to determine which way the wheels should be pointing. If those components experience a failure, you cannot drive the truck. Search on some of the Edge forums where this technology made its debut. Not exactly trouble free.
I will stick with the regular steering.
Download a copy of the order guide and filter through the last section, in some circumstances you can get the options you want ala-carte depending on what trim level you are buying. It requires reading the fine print but sometimes it is possible if all of the stars align in your favor.
If you review the spreadsheet I sent you a month or so ago, the second page lays out some of the ala-carte options.
When I ordered my truck the dealer pushed the packages pretty hard but when I explained what I wanted and gave him the order codes he was able to find them in the system. To be fair we both learned some things during the order process and I ended up changing a few things during the order. Go in with a list of what you want but keep an open mind to suggestions.

Hello There
Am i on the understanding that what you are saying with this adative steering that the steering wheel is NOT a direct placement onto the steering column but rather it turns the column vis an electric motor
This is as i understand the ony way as they say it reduces the steering wheel turns to turn the actual wheels at a certain speed or can someone explain this adative steering better ??? )

i went and read the Ford patent on this technology and that is indeed how it appears to work, hence my hesitation. It debuted on the Edge and there have been reports of faults if you check the Edge forums.
Has anyone at all had luck when ordering a truck and selecting the ultimate package will the salesmen allow you to opt out of something that comes with that package? I know on the website you can't but I was wondering if you can with the dealer since I was told by you guys that they order buy highlighting what you want on a order guide.
like say I want a couple features that are ultimate exclusive but don't want this one feature that comes with it... can said feature be removed? Or am I stuck paying for something I do not want?
thanks
No, I tried. I wanted the KR without moon roof but all the other stuff in the ultimate package. Wound up with a platinum, so I could get the stuff without the moon roof. I asked more than one person at Ford. It was the only way I could get massaging seat and no moon roof.
Very happy with end result
I've found that if you spend enough time experimenting with the build and price tool, you can usually find the right combination. For me, the perfect combination of features, given the current ordering constraints, ends up being a King Ranch without the Ultimate package, plus 20" wheels, FX4, heated rear seats, roof marker lights, tailgate step, splash guards (the block heater, rapid heat, dual alternators are standard in my state).
However, it ends up costing a good bit more than a Lariat Ultimate with the same features and includes the sunroof which I'd rather do without. It does seem silly to spend so much more to get less. The only real difference I found was that the KR seats were MUCH more comfortable than the Lariat seats.
