Factory order experience

Anyone have any experience with factory ordering a pickup? Pretty sure it's too late in this model year to factory order a 2013. I posted previously about the severe lack of king ranchs on the dealer lots here locally. I've used about every car inventory search tool I could find that will let you search nationally. I finally found a truck similar to what I want but it had some extras I don't want. (luxury package, chrome package, tailgate step) It's also all the way over in Minnesota I've come to the reality that I'm searching for a truck that doesn't exist on the lot (blue jeans king ranch max tow package 6.5 ft bed without the luxury package or chrome package ) any tips or suggestions on the factory order route?

When we ordered Wendy's truck it was painless. We were told 8 weeks for the build but the truck showed up in 6 weeks. I would check the local dealer but I think cut off for 2013 model year builds in the end of July or early August. Chris

I always order my trucks. Get an order guide, figure out what codes you want, and take that to your favorite dealership. 6-12 weeks later, your truck should arrive. If they tell you they don't want to order and will find you something instead, walk out.

I prefer having a truck with 2 or 3 miles show up at the dealership exactly how I want it - rather than having to pay for stuff I don't want, or trying to add things aftermarket.

I'm on the same page with you there. The one I found is close to what I want, it has almost all the functional stuff I was looking for on it, (max tow package and ecoboost) but then it has a bunch of stuff on it I don't want or don't need.(moonroof navigation HID headlights 20 inch chrome wheels) I would have thought wanting less options would make a truck easier to find but it seems not but then again I backed my self into a bit of a corner looking for a hard to find trim level with a hard to find tow package and a hard to find color.

it looks like Donlen announced the final ordering date as 8-23-13 for ordering 2013 F150's.

In short, what the man's trying to say is get an order guide and get your **** to the dealership so you can order the truck you want!

BTW, ask them to review "SMART Vincent" with you when you order. This system contains all the discounts that are available to you personally, people in your ZIP, etc. They can lock in the current discounts - and then, if the incentives get better when delivery hits - they can take those instead. Gives you the best of both worlds.

There are also quite a few odd discounts out there. Small dollars, but they add up. For instance, I got $500 for rolling $3K of accessories into my financing (commercial topper). Ford had the best rate anyway, so I was more than happy to take free money.

I ordered a truck, with the expectation that it would be delivered by a certain date (while I was home on leave from Iraq) and someone apparently sat on the order. It was not going to be delivered until the day before I returned to Iraq, so I used my order as leverage, if you will, to negotiate with a dealer in finding a truck that suited my wants/needs. I was not too picky about color, but it had to be an FX4, 6.5, and had to have a few other options. I ended up getting more than I had ordered, at a better price. And I was able to drive it while home on leave...

one dealer in town has a couple little rebates like that. $500 first time car buyer and $750 current college student or recent college graduate. That will be a nice extra extra $1250 off. Talked to both dealers on the phone earlier today before I saw the order date, sounds like I got the run around on factory orders. They never came out and said it was too late to order a 2013 just that 2014 production would be starting soon. found my 2013 order guide wish they had the 2014 one out as well to see if there is anything worth waiting for. Thanks for all the help guys

Hi everybody!

If you decide to pull the trigger and add a new Ford to your garage, send me a PM with your order information and I'll give you weekly updates on your new vehicle's status. Be sure to include your order number and dealership/name location; if you have your VIN, I can use that as well.

Do yourself a favor and sit down with the salesperson and go through every discount. You'd be amazed how many there are. They can be confusing - some are mutually exclusive - but I've always found something that I didn't know about previously through this process. Organization memberships, rolling things into financing, military service, college credits, repeat buyer, ad nauseum. Never pass up free money!

I agree that ordering is the best way to go. You can take your time on the build and get all that you want and litle of what you do not want to pay for. I had the time to wait a while and review my choices before I ordered. The wait was well worth it, because it added to the excitment when you first see the vehicle. Good Luck.

Over the years, I've factory ordered four Ford pickup trucks. Strangely our first truck ordered the day after Halloween just "vanished" from the factory tracking system around Christmas; and after eleven weeks of waiting, we ended up buying a Bronco off the same dealer's lot on a Friday. We had to return the Bronco to the dealership for pin striping on the following Monday and, what do you know, the F-150 pickup we originally ordered was on display front-and-center in the showroom and no one could explain how that happened--we ended up keeping the Bronco anyways and we should have done that a lot earlier. My next three pickups were ordered from another dealership and all came in as promised and on time. I got what I wanted, no one "test drove" them, and it was easier to negotiate the cost eight weeks out. In fact the 1998 XLT truck had the power mirror option we paid for made standard between the time we ordered it and when it was delivered so Ford sent us a $45 check for the dealer cost for that item...which impressed me greatly and helped cement my loyalty to Ford.

When you order you can never tell if it's going to show up on time or not. When I ordered my '11 I was told that it would show up in 6--8 weeks. I took delivery of it 34 days from the day I ordered it. I've heard of others who waited 12 or 13 weeks to take delivery. So results may vary but my 1st time ordering experience was great.
