I've got a 1989 Ford F250 XLT Lariat, with a 7.3 IDI. The other day I went to go start it and it wouldn't start. So, Later on I went out to jump it and as soon as I started to turn it over it started shooting sparks from a some connector. I went to the parts store to find it but, came up with nothing. Does anyone know what it goes to? I was thinking of just snipping the connector off and soldering the wires together since there is no fuse attached to it. Would that be a good idea?
That's the main engine harness. The two fat yellow wires that melted are the glow plug power. It is a very common problem, most people bypass the connector with those wires, you can strip them back and use butt connectors to reconnect them. Just make sure the batteries are disconnected first, as they are live at all times.
