Hey guys,
I have a 2012 F350 with 35" tires no lift or level kit. I tow a 16ft tandem axle utility trailer daily for work and I'm trying to figure out the correct hitch drop to buy. After taking the measurements to figure out the correct drop I came up with somewhere in the 7" range so I'm looking at buying a 10" adjustable hitch. Does this make sense or do you think thats too much drop for an almost stock truck? FYI I'm running roughly a 4" drop currently and the trailer sits way too high in the front.
Thanks.
That actually sounds about right. You don't get a full 10" with adjustable hitches. I had my weight distribution hitch modified to an adjustable 9" drop for my old camper and stock truck. It sat very low, probably not much higher than a cargo trailer. Luckily we bought a new camper that sits at conventional height before I lifted my truck.
Thanks for your help guys. I'll probably go and order up the 10" adjustable. I guess worst comes to worst I can return and get a shorter one if it's way too long.
I think you will be happy with the 10" adjustable hitch. With my stock height 2015 F250 on stock tires (33") I used a 5.25" Drop for towing a travel trailer and it was just a touch nose high.
Look into the Gen-Y hitches. Drops in various lengths and have a weight distribution attachment. Lets me use different heights and hitch *****. One set up for my travel trailer and another set up for my utility trailer.
I really liked Gen-y hitches for a bit. To the point where I ordered one off ebay. Once I got it I realized it was just too big and bulky (unnecessarily) for what I wanted so I turned around and sold it and got something else.
