Hello everyone I just transplanted a 7.3 idi into my 1980 f150 mudtruck. I can't get it to run right it idles fine but I go to rev it up and it sounds almost like it is backfiring and won't go past that rpm it's smokes when it does it. At night I can see flames out the exhaust. I thought is was return lines so I replaced them. I took a video of it
Loosen the three injector pump mounting nuts and rotate it towards the passenger side, that will advance the timing. Seems like it's a good chance that's what it is,
I recommend using a big pair of channel locks to grab the pump and rotate it, metal lines can be a pain, probably wouldn't hurt to change the fuel filter if you haven't yet.
