I have a 86 f250 6.9 and my injector pump is going out and i want to swap to 7.3 injectors and pump.my question is can i reuse my return line kit off of the 6.9 if i go with 7.3 injectors.my current lines are only 3 months old
Yes, the injectors are all the same size. The lines and caps will probably be fine, but you'll need new o-rings.
Go for viton #111 o-rings, they're available from McMaster Carr for pretty like $5
Any reason why you want a 7.3 injection pump? Technically, they're a bit different, but the differences are so subtle that you'd never notice anything. A 7.3 pump will work on a 6.9 and vice-versa. If someone told you that you'd get more power out of it by using a "7.3 pump", then they're lying to you, or they don't know what they're talking about.
All IDI injectors fit both engines. There's no engine-specific injectors; just different coded ones with slightly different spray patterns and pop pressures. Just get a brand new set of Delphi BB injectors and you'll be good for another 100,000+ miles.
As far as the return lines though, yes you can use them. Probably want to replace your O-rings though, as was suggested. No point in trusting the used ones when new ones are as cheap as they are.
i swapped pumps yesterday and everything from my 6.9 switched over to the new pump except my 6.9 has a bracket for the kick down lever and the 7.3 does not.i drove the truck to work cause its my only vehicle and it kept down shifting out of 3rd with out the lever hooked up
Honestly I would buy an entirely new return line kit from Amazon for 30 bucks. Comes with caps, rings, copper washers, hose, hose clamps. It seems like extremely cheap insurance for headache relief down the road
its not the return lines or the pump and injectors thats messed up,what i need to know is there any way to swap the 6.9 kick down mount to the 7.3pump
Isn't that just two bolts on the passenger side of the pump? I haven't looked at a pump in a while... I'll have to go dig my spare out of storage to see if it's any different.
ok i finally got the bracket figured out and hooked up,but the tranny still wont stay in third gear.as soon as u hit quarter to half throttle is down shifts and winds out
How much travel does the throttle on the injection pump have before it hits the kickdown? It should only hit it at about 3/4 throttle. Sounds like you have it set a little too close.
