I think it comes from the instrument panel. Same color on back of fuse block and labeled instrument panel.

I'm not sure about your 72, but on my 69 that seems to be the color wire that runs all my dash lights. I'm not being a smartA$$, the cig light, back of dash lights. Check you cluster and see if same wire is there but cut. It would actually be on the pluggy pluggy to the dash cluster of your truck.

Well lookie here. That wire does show up for a 69. I was looking at the same time Teach posted. I repeat, are you sure you have a 1972? Blue/red doesn't show up in the 72 diagram.

1970/72 F100/350's have printed circuit boards. 1970 boards are 1970 only.

Hey Jeff, this is the tag on the driver side door jam.

It's raining out today.

I'd be out there but don't feel like getting wet. Plus, I washed down the cab interior and I don't want it getting f'd up. I was going to primer today.

Where else can I find the VIN?

1972
F250=F250 2WD.
H===390
R===built in San Jose.
P27302=Built May of 1972.

But this truck is wired like a 67/69. I wonder if it's gotten a used cab in the past.

In addition to the V.I.N. on the driver's door data plate, the number is also stamped on the frame in two different places, both on the topside of the right frame rail. The first one is in the engine compartment, just below the alternator on two-wheel-drive pickups or just behind the front axle on four-wheel-drive pickups.
The second number is stamped just under where the seat would be located. You'll likely need a flashlight and small mirror to read this one.

These frame stamps are usually hard to read, so be sure to grab a wire brush and some rags to clean the grime off.Click the thumbnail at right to see the two V.I.N. locations on the truck's frame.

That's weird. Not where they are but the fact that I can't recall seeing the one farthest forward in front of the spring tower. I have my front totally off and I painted the frame from the back of the cab forward and I don't remember seeing anything there. I need to check tomorrow.

I believe the cab is original because the paint for the bed and cab is the same. All the layers...
