I recently purchased a 2012 250 and have a question about auxiliary power switches. I have the four switches in the truck although I don't think any plugs have been wired to any of them as of now. What I want to do is be able to run a portable air compressor from one of them. We pull a camper and it would be nice to carry my small shop compressor with us on the road just in case. I have looked at the small ones that clip to the battery but I don't think that would do the job. My owners manual says that the auxiliary power is not to run certain power tools but not what kind. Does anyone here know if I can do this and if so how. Any advice is appreciated.
Scraprat thanks for the reply. One question is how far from the battery can you go with the cord and air line? My rig is pretty long and I need about 50 feet to get to the back tire of the trailer. I looked on Harbor Freight's site and they didn't give the specs. for length of cord and hose.
The cord that connects to the battery is roughly 15' and the airline is roughly 25' stretched. You could always quick connect another line on. I figured if I needed it for the rv I would fill before leaving camp I always check the tires with a gauge before leaving. Better to be safe than sorry.
Got the same compressor as scraprat. I bolted it under my rear seat, cut the aux end off the chord, added some wire and tied it right into my upfitter switches. I then replaced the hose with a husky 25ft (had to get some fittings to make it work). Works great and for me. I am at work and don't have any pics right now but can get some later if you want them.
Thanks for the reply. If you could take some pics of your setup that would be great.
here are the pics. Had to add fittings to the compressor to make the house work. Cut end off chord split it some and grounded one strand anywhere nearby ran the other to upfitter. Took child seat tie down cover off as I don't use it, perfect spot to hang the hose. I broke the back screw holes that is why I used the strapping. Got the husky compressor tip kit at HD. Has tips for all I need to inflate. Hope these help.

t h e v fitting going directly into the compressor is a size bigger than the one going to the hose
Frisbeekev I really appreciate the pics, very interesting. I am going to look into doing the same thing. The only question I have is have you had any issues with heat off the unit, I have read that this compressor gets pretty hot.

No heat issues as of yet (About a years time). When I use it i lift the rear seat and always have the door open.
the way the com p rest or was made had a male end sticking out. It was the wrong end and larger then the new hose. So I had to reduce down. Unfortunately that is the only way I could think t o get it to work

Several guys I know have it and are happy with it. Although I have not mounted it in my truck that does sound like an interesting option. If I did that I would probably add a 2 gal tank under the bed of the truck and then tee off from that to both sides and/or the rear of the truck if you have a trailer.
