Stephanie, my 91 did that a few times when I first got it. It never stayed on all the time, a few to several seconds was it. I ordered and used the OBD1 scanner , but to my amazement, there were no stored codes . I bought the truck from a guy who was in the military, so it had sat for a while. After a few hundred miles the intermittent CEL stopped. My guess ( and only that) is some component was sticking from sitting.
I have an 88 Bronco XLT the CEL would come on kill the truck and I could start it up right away. I pulled the codes first code dealt with TPS and the second dealt with EGR Valve.
I replace all my vaccum lines, they were VERY brittle, with rubber vaccum lines. Replaced the EGR valve it was stuck, I want to say in the closed position. It started getting dark so TPS is for another weekend project, before I start on it though I will pull codes again just to see where it stands before I start taking things apart. It is running a whole lot better with what I have done. I hope this helps
my 1999 Ranger blinks a code. I'm not sure if the Bronco does the same or not. Count how many flashes you get, there should be a pause, then another set of flashes and then a pause longer then it will flash the code again. See if it's doing that, then post the code if it is.
