Well I finally had time to work on my truck and program it.
We successfully added adaptive cruise to my truck tonight. Everything works as it should the only thing is ids will be the only way to complete this task since you have to re-program the pcm to accept adding adaptive cruise. FORScan doesn't have the ability to write pcm as built data and the same for ipc as built data. Until forscan is able to do both those items it won't be a easy add on. It will be possible but not with out ids for more then just calibration.
That's a good thing and I'm glad that it works
I'm wondering if we just install all the parts and the dealer would just program everything

Probably not because you have to shoot the data of a truck with adaptive cruise to the pcm. If forscan would ever allow us to see the pcm data then it would be easier. But since it does not you have to use another vin with adaptive cruise to reprogram the pcm module with ids.
As of right now it's not impossible as it was done to my truck.. it's just the average tech isn't going to do all that work needed to program the truck.. hell the local dealer didn't even know how to do a calibration on the crusie control module. In order to do this you would have to have the a ids I do not think any service department will shoot another vin pcm to someone's truck to get this to work correctly. But it is possible just need to find a shop willing to do the work. It wasn't as easy as f150 trucks because on those trucks you don't need to worry about programming the pcm.
das_16, when everything is said and done, I'd love to see a list of part numbers needed, prices, and a basic instruction set. Perhaps a mod would make it a sticky...
One last thing...are you using the standard +/- cruise buttons or did you replace the steering wheel?
I replaced the switches as well in the steering wheel it's the only way you can control the screen properly.
And yes you can change the the ipc now with forscan and allow it to view adaptive cruise on your dash. But like I said the program the pcm is what is stopping this from being a easy add on task. Because before we shot the data from the other vin on my pcm because I was getting a communication code every time the truck had to apply the brakes.
Ok, so on my truck I just replaced my steering wheel controls not the steering wheel.
And as the dash lines are you talking about the heads up display led? Really won't work with out everything else programmed.
And yes as of now you will not be able to add it with just forscan even tho you can install everything program pic. You still will get a pcm communication code and the only way to program that is with ids you have to shoot data from a vin with adaptive cruise. And most dealers will not tackle this task.
And either way if you did install everything you would still need ids to calibrate the front sensor.
At the end of the day - is it worth it? Rather than ordering the truck with it in the first place?
Well first off it was only added to see if it could be done really. It didn't bother me having it or not having it. When I ordered my truck it was a option I skipped out on. I added it under the cost it is from factory so why not.
There's people who find trucks on the lot and don't want to wait and order wanted to see if it could be added later. And well what was the end result it could be added but just not simple like the f150 platform.
