Additive

A friend who has a Dodge recommends that I use Stanadyne in my 2015 Power Stoke? It sounds good on the web site but is it good for our engine?

A little research on here will show you countless threads on this subject with just as many opinions.

But yes, I believe most use a Diesel Fuel Additive. Be it whatever brand.

there really is no need to run one with every tank.

Ensure that what ever you do run is compatible with the current generation and the emissions.

Make sure the contents do not include alcohol.

Stuff like diesel 911 (used in the winter for fuel issues) is not a good thing.

I use Ford PM22 with every other Fillup. There are cheaper additives out there, but in case of a Warranty issue I Doubt if Ford will blame their own Product.

I've been using stanadyne perf formula in almost every tankful since 2005. Don't know if it does any good, but I feel it's use is beneficial, and positive effects gained from long term continuous use.

I used the gray bottle Diesel Kleen with my 7.3 every other tank. Since the purchase of my 6.7, I've been using PM22 every other tank

Local station puts Power Service in their fuel so I stopped running additives. I've run Lucas, PM22, PM23, Power Service White Bottle, Power Service Grey bottle. If the fuel I got was low Cetane, it helps. If it's cold out and the fuel isn't treated, anti-gel's help and have allowed the truck to start when it otherwise wasn't. (so I know that at least anti-gel works).

If you get good fuel, you won't notice a difference. I strive for this! Even if I put in an additive and it didn't do anything beneficial, it only hurts the wallet a little. Like Senix said, don't run anything with alcohol in it. Diesel 9-1-1 is like the extreme, emergency, it's -40F/C out, the fuel filter is clogged and I am on the road in the middle of nowhere without cell phone service, type thing. And even then, I'd have to think really hard about using it.

I ran Stanadyne in my 6.0. Nothing wrong with it either, I ran it in my 6.0 and other brand diesels. Just isn't as easy to find for me now. And like I said, now that my local fuel station puts in additives, I'm not adding any more.

For years I used additives. P.S. PM22 and finally when I quit about 3 years ago I can tell no difference. Unless you have a fuel problem I consider it a waste of money. JMHO.

I was told by a HotShot driver/ex diesel mechanic that fuel additives are beneficial for lubricating the injectors. When sulfur was removed from diesel fuel it also removed the lubricating properties that it provided and injector life is reduced. He has older trucks that were designed to be used with higher concentrations of sulfur and tells me he gets about 100,000 miles out of injectors with today's fuels.

Is this true for the newer engines with common rail injection?

When I had my 6.0 I used the ps additive or whatever is was, got it at wal-mart. I burnt through 4 injectors, a couple of egr systems, and a bunch of other crap before I dumped the truck at about 50,000 miles. I have not used it on my new truck am am at 45,000 miles with no problems and do not anticipate using them. Besides I use 2 to 300 gals of fuel per month and it would get costly. jmho.
