I could use your help and need to get an idea of how many of you guys use diesel additive! Or your friends that you know that use them. I'm trying to get an idea of the percentage that use them. Also will additive still been need on the new trucks in the future or can they design the engines to not need them? any comments? Thanks Dan
I sometimes use an additive but I honestly see no difference in performance. Canadian diesel is formulated differently from US diesel, according to reports, and now has 2% biodiesel by law. The report on lubricity that is around said that 2% biodiesel was the best lubricity additive by far, so I don't see a need for anything. I might add a cetane booster or an anti-gel but have seen no reason to so far.
As far as modern trucks are concerned, I think it is going to get worse. There is a big fuss among some of the Ford 6.7 owners, VW, Porsche, GM as well, that the fuel lubricity available is not meeting specs for their high pressure fuel pumps. If I owned one of those vehicles and used US fuel, I would use the best possible fuel additive religiously. Claims that all of a sudden there is water in the fuel when there never was before is kind of transparently bogus to me, but the word is that some manufacturers (Ford for one) are disallowing warranty claims for failed fuel pumps on the basis of water in the fuel.
I use Power Service Diesel Kleen for cetane boost and added lubrication.
My friend has two 7.3s and he does plow snow. I asked if he uses any to keep the fuel from gelling. He said "not unless it gets stupid cold" then he uses Diesel Dope. Not sure what that is. We live in south eastern Pa.
Power Service Diesel Kleen (white bottle winter, grey bottle summer). Couldn't tell you if it does anything though, can't tell a difference. But I have never had any gelling, injector issues or any fuel related problems at all (knock on wood).
I have always used Stanadyne. It has a lot of good qualities. I can't tell the difference either, but I just have to trust that its performing like it states. I have not had any issues with my truck.
I use the xdp+ performance additive, notice that she runs a little quieter with it, and its nice for those random small gas stations you just arent sure about

Me too, except that I think it might have a slightly softer and smoother sound at idle. Maybe a little less injector noise?
I use Amsoil Diesel Concentrate and Cetane boost in every fill and also add an anti gel in the winter. I have never noticed any difference but most techs recommend using something and for the little it costs I figure why not.
Diesel kleen at every fill up since brand new in 06 never had any issues and injectors are all original, easy COLD starts and good mileage so yes I am a believer and would never trust what's at the pump don't ask I know from experience. At the very least its a good piece of mind and not my first diesel Ive used additives in
I use Diesel Kleen (gray bottle) all year long. Sometimes I add 8 oz. Of Two Stroke Motor Oil, sometimes 8oz. Of Tranny Fluid, just whatever's laying around the garage. I have some Air Compressor oil I'm going to try, and the next time my wife turns her back I'm going to steal her cooking oil

Oooooh man, be careful with that. I used my wife's turkey baster to draw up diesel fuel from the upper filter housing when changing fuel filters one time and have not lived that one down, to this day. I went out and found a fancy one to replace her old one, but of course it wasn't nearly as good as the one I destroyed.
Sheesh, women...
