im not sure what the spec is on the F150, but I did an 8.8 inch in the Explorer and the spec was 25 inch pounds..... I used a 2 pound weight on a 12 inch wrench to check 24 ft pounds ROLLING RESISTANCE... it takes slightly more than that to START getting it to move.
Got it back together can't hear the humming anymore when accelerating but can sill hear a groaning noise when slowing down, seems like i might have an issue with my brakes, u joints, or the pinion bearings, i wasn't able to get a press so i preloaded the pinion, then reinstalled the carrier assembly with new shims etc, installed new fluid meant for limited slips
the carrier shims give a little backlash in the gears and about zero clearance endshake ? There may be some gear noise on reused gears that are not exactly set to the original wear pattern ....... check brakes and u- joints.. if not that, some gear noise is acceptable .... why are you still worried about pinion bearing ?
Not really the pinion bearing more of it going out on me while driving, not used to driving with gear noise or anything tho, so if its noisey i feel somethings still wrong.... i did research & it seems it's either brakes, u joints, or my pinion bearings... if it lasts till the end of the month ill have the money to replace what needs to be replaced & get new bearings pressed on
