Ouch, bad news! That's particularly why I recessed the back of the bracket, so it does not contact in any way! I have the snaked steel pipe, but a few years ago the mounting tab rusted off and I worry about the rigidity. why wouldn't the older style using the rubber hose work?
If you can get the hose attached to a 5/8 hose barb x 1/2"npt nipple.
But I think you're going to have to attach it before the bracket goes on, and it would be better if it is a 45 or 90° fitting because the hose barb points at the bottom of the bracket.
(but then the fitting has to go on before you install the pump)
And on, and on, and on....
There's a reason i bit the bullet and bought the L&L.
My pipe is used but functional.
If you really need it PM me and I'll send it to you for the cost of shipping.
Hmmm, I'll have to take another look at it tonight, I've got a bunch of those fittings used on the 70's models 385 series. I figured the reason was to recess the heater hose towards the head for clearance, that's the main reason I relief cut the backside for clearance! Thanks for all your help so far! Will pm on pipe anyways!
Much appreciated, I did notice the low slung tendency of the early style, that's why I was unsure of using any of the other models or years working in this application. Last question on the subject, factory alt pulley had 2 pulley grooves, I used one from crank to alt direct, I'm looking to get less belt slip potential by using both. Looks like the outer groove lines up with waterpump?
I have these 429/460 automotive alternator brackets and they just won't work with the truck crank pulley and waterpump.
Ended up with the L&L bracket that JBG sells.
*IF* I can find the Torino brackets you are welcome to frustrate yourself for two days before throwing them across the garage into the scrap heap (like I did)
Just shoot me a PM.
Are you saying the Torino brackets won't work or that the combo D0SE-10145-A DOSE-10156-A won't work (or both) ?
I eventually want to remove the smog so want to have everything lined up for when I do. I have a couple of these combos - with one being from a 70s 460 that was in an 85. Wanting to powdercoat them soon but not if they won't work.

I'm saying that bracket pair I bought put the alternator too low, into the crossmember of my 4x4 frame, *and* the alternator is not in plane with the other pulleys on my engine.
if it was just one of those i would have tried to solve it. The L&L bracket fits and works without a bunch of cutting, welding.and spacers.

Thanks. That's a shame. Was really hoping to be able to use stock brackets.

Will be buying the L&L bracket soon. Did you happen to do a 3g swap on yours? Curious if there are any alignment issues with the L&L bracket, 3g, and 2-vbelt pulley. I spoke to powermaster and the tech rep said with the 140amp, a single vbelt would be fine so may not have to worry about the two.
@ArdWrknTrk Would you be able to take a photo of your alternator mounting and the belt routing? Some threads have mentioned that with the L&L brackets, new crank and waterpump pulleys are needed for it to line up. Do you run into anything like that? Does yours have a/c?
