Steering issue for a newbie

Hi Everyone. A few weeks ago I picked up a 2000 V10 Excursion. Has 145k on it. Insides were in decent shape. Started right up and drives without issue. I took it for a 20 minute drive and could find no issues except for the rocker panels. After handling the transfer I jumped on the highway and it was like trying to ride a big girl who was reaching for a sandwich. All over the highway, almost to the point of losing control. Dropped it off to my mechanic, he alligned it. Its better, but still not good. Up to 50, its fine. At 70, you are risking your life as it wobbles. Any help is appreciated. Its not my daily driver but I would like it to be.

Also, I am just outside Philly if anyone ever wants to meet up.

Jason

The shop that completed the alignment didn't notice any worn components?

What tires are on the truck? Are they all the same? Same Load Range? Tire pressures?

Here is some light reading: https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/1...of-caster.html

What Mark just said, linkages are worn or tires are miss matched in some way.

Where abouts just outside Philly? I'm in Media Delaware County.

Nope. I brought it to a shop I don't normally use. My guy was backed up. Tires are brand new. And by that, I mean about 400 miles. Pressure is good.

I am in Ridley. About 15 mins from you. Linkages all look good. Then again, I am not a mechanic.

Guys, thanks for the responses, they are very much appreciated.

Hey neighbor! .
You need to run up your post count to enable your Private Message functions, I would be happy to meet up and give your EX a good once over.

5 posts and 10 days registered.

If you're like me and can't remember which is the 5 and which is the 10, click on the forum announcement in the Classified Forum and the info is listed there by Tim.

In my opinion, the steering gear is probably toast. But, replace all front end joints while you're at it.

lets start with your ride height. please measure all 4 corners from the center of your hub to the bottom of the fender wheel arch and post those measurments.

next, please post the before and after settings of your alignment. need toe, camber and caster.
