Can anyone tell me why my SD "wanders" when I'm driving down the road. I am constantly correcting it. I just put new tires on it(285s) and it seems worse than the old ones(also 285s). The shop that put the tires on said that my toe might be off a bit as the other tires seemed to wear a little uneven. I bought a rancho steering stablilizer but havent put it on yet. the truck only has 26k miles on it and it's a "tar baby".
I know that on concrete freeways, tires will track with the grooves that are finished into the cement. Some tires will follow these grooves more than others.
Try it on an asphalt road. Does it wander on the smooth asphalt?
The caster setting is what makes a vehicle want to stay on center and helps the wheels straighten themselves after turning a corner. If you do have the alignment checked I would have them pay particular attention this setting.Though it could very well be your new tires. Some handle better than others.
just a note to let you all know that I put the steering stablizer (Rancho) last night and it seemed to have solved the problem. BUT..... I am going to have my dealer check ALL the ball joints as well as check the alignment. Seems there are too many posts about ball joint failure to ignore.
