Question about truck value
I have a 1969 F250 that I would like to sell. I went to the following web page
1969 Ford F250 Value | 3/4 Ton Styleside Prices and Book Value
And NADA says that the truck should be worth about $11,400. However, if I look at the "For Sale" Forum, I see prices more in the 1,000 to 3,000 range.
So why the discrepancy?

In the end, it's worth whatever someone is willing to pay for it.

My experience has been that whenever I go to buy something, most people want ridiculous prices for it. Then if I go to sell something, people want me to just give it to them. It confuses and irritates the crap out of me too and especially in todays market, I still don't understand how people can ask/get some of the prices that they do for some things. Or, where those NADA values come from. Whatever, In the end though, it is what HIO said. Something like these trucks are worth exactly what someone is willing to pay for it. Good luck

I looked for several years before I bought my 68 several years ago and I keep up with the market. My observation is that there is no rhyme or reason to the pricing for these trucks.
There are plenty of guys out there who think their worked over, clapped out trucks are worth $10,000. At the same time, you can find a solid truck (decent paint, runs, drives and stops well) for $3,000.
The "low retail" category might describe my truck when I got it. I paid $2,900 for it. Like Dan said, I don't understand where NADA gets their figures but they are way off. This is what it looked like when it was for sale:

Thanks for the input
Well, I figure that NADA must use some sort of sales history to come up with that number. So, I decided to poke around and I found 4 1969 F250s at Hemmings.com
The cheapest one was 4,000 and it needed a lot of restoration. The other 3 were very nicely preserved/restored and the prices were 10,900 15,500 and 46,995.
Basically, this tells me that a frame off restoration would be worth 11,400 on up depending on the fanciness of the drive train performance enhancements. But in my case, I would be looking at a more mundane number and you guys pointed out above.
Anyway, thanks to those who responded.

Are not based on averages of what the vehicles actually sold for.

dhglaser imo you can thank auction company,s like B.J.. people have rusty old piece of junk in the back 40 they see the prices on t.v. and figure hey my fill in the blank here has got to be worth at least half of that. and then there are people who the vech. has more sentimental value than real world value. hope you have some good luck on finding a truck. some times it takes awhile .

I agree, the auctions. Also People that have more money than they need to have. or else credit, and then go ahead a buy whatever they want not caring the cost of it, because we live in a "gotta have it" society these days of instant gratification. I have watched prices of these old cars go through the roof in the last 20 years and pretty much ruin it all for the real car guys. Like anything else I guess.

Ahite chiren... tap the brakes. I saw this one coming.
1) there's no way me personally, will spend $11k on a f100 that has no updates. That's me.
2) not everyone is born with a silver spoon. Some have worked their butts off 40-50 years to get what we have. Some by the sweat of the brow, some working smarter rather than harder.
3) if one needs a safety pin, there are other sandboxes in a safe zone you can go play in.
