i have a 85 f250 2wd,6.9 the front tank inside the pickup tune gos down to some stupid plastic setup, the round part on the bottom is broke off,and up a few inches it tee out to nothing, hows it suppose to suck fuel from the bottom of tank if thats open, second does anyone sell this part, ,can i just extend the tube down far or does it have to have that bottom part, looks like some king of stand ?? thanks
One way or another you need "a" pickup:
1. Something to keep the end from sticking to the tank(and thereby blocking off your fuel).
2. A filter screen to keep larger crud from getting sucked forward and getting stuck in the FSV, lift pump or lines
That's pretty much it.
The stock pickup is $30 and works just fine as long as it's not disintegrated, but rubber doesn't last forever.
The stock pickup actually has a third feature:
There is this round black thing near the top of the rubber piece - at about the 1/4 tank level.
This was actually designed such that if the filter screen gets plugged, or ice blocks off the main screen, that would open and pull "clean" fuel from around 1/4 tank.
Of course, this also requires that you have fuel beyond the 1/4 tank mark...
