Left front wheel has little play can a hub assembly cause this?

 

More then likely it's wheel bearings.

 

Just making sure because I just wanted to make sure it wasn't a upper or lower ball joint but those are fairly new. Would the wheel bearings also make a humming noise when driving down the road?

 

Yes they can. Drive down the road and turn to the right to put pressure on the left wheel. Putting pressure on it normally quiets it down, turning to the left should still allow you to hear the noise, confirming it is the left bearing. Not an exact science but it should help.

 

Ok I'll try that thank you hopefully this will take care of the little play as well
