Talking 300I6 Exhaust

i have a 300i6 with the original exhaust with no cat. i want a low deep, quiet tone without going broke, i would like a magnaflow but not sure which one. the engine gives a good deep sound even with a stock muffler, idles at 450 rpms. anyone have any exhaust experience???

I have a 300 in my 76. I used 2 1/4 pipe from the manifold to the muffler which is a 50 series flow master that is 2 1/2. Then a 2 1/2 tail pipe that dumps behind the back tire. It sounds good. Not to loud and nice deep throaty sound

My guess at this is that you want a nice long run all the way out the back of the truck, and you don't need duals unless you want them.

Back in the '90s, one of my neighbors got UPS deliveries seemingly every day, so I got real familiar with the sound of those trucks. Many of those big box-vans (Package Cars) were equipped with 240s and 300s back then. And they sounded really good. Not too loud, but you could definitely hear them through closed windows. Smooth and deep are the best words to describe it.
Those fleet vehicles surely had to be equipped with a single pipe all the way back, and that is where I suspect the smoothness came from. The EFIs would've had the split manifold, but still would've Y'ed down immediately.
The deepness comes from the muffler and pipe diameters.

just a single pipe. Been thinking about trying a split exhaust manifold from a efi truck.

I would try a simple "turbo" style muffler. Your local parts store should have one at moderate cost. This will give some bark when you push it but not too loud otherwise.

Duals, off either dual efi manifolds or headers....with rpm, typically sound like the neighborhood import with a fart can muffler.....even if you use a turbo muffler. Great engine but sounds like complete **** with duals, imo of course. Even with an X or H pipe youll get that upper rpm obnoxious tone. Ive tried to make duals sound right on the inline six and to my ears, its not possible but my ears think the sound of a v8 is akin to finding zen doing 70 mph.

My two cents, a single exhaust, regardless of your exh manifold/ header choice (id go long tube headers over efi manifolds) into a y pipe....and opt for the quietest muffler offered from whichever brand you want. Especially since you specified low rumble.
