I recently put straight pipes on my 2000 Expedition witht the 5.4 and love it. I was worried that it was going to be to loud and sound like crap, but it sounds great. I highly recomend this for anybody wanting a louder exhaust. I still have the cats on so it isnt crazy loud, but under normal driving conditions it is very quiet, but when I get into it is when it gets loud. Very clean sounding and not to much popping.
I was just wondering if anybody else has done somthing similar and how they liked it.
I cant remember off the top of my head. I think it is somewhere between 2 1/2 inches to 3 inches. It could be bigger but I cant remember. It sounds great though, I cut off the muffler on the front side as close as I could to give me the most pipe to work with. Then I dropped the entire tail pipe and muffler assembly to cut the other side of the muffler. I highly recommend to drop the muffler and tail pipe because it is much easier to cut and install the new pipe that I put in place.
The stock pipe is 2.5"
I did close to a straight pipe. I didnt want a very loud sound at all, so Thursday, I had a DynoMax muffler installed. I had to fight with the exhaust guy (the WHOLE time) about how I wanted it, but Im thrilled with the sound. Like he said, Not very loud at all, as long as your not in it.
