I was considering purchasing the Heartthrob Deep Tone Catback for my 86 F-150. I need the exhaust to sound LOUD...I was wondering if anyone knows or has had experience with this exhaust, and if so, are you satisfied?
ive got 2 1/2 inch straight pipe on my 82 f100 with the inline 6. it has the factory manifold and down pipe and then a peice of 2 1/2 inch stainless steel fence post, it bends out infront of the rightrear tire.
if possible ditch the cat converter that will help the sound out alot.
mine has a differnt kind of rumble to it a idle kindof like a tractor, with the pedal to the floor it has a wicked sound to it.
it dont sound like any v8 ive ever heard, it also dosnt sound like any v6 ive ever heard. lots of differnt guys in the inline 6 forum have tryed differnt setups only to get a ricey honda sound.
if you'll be doing the work yourself id highly recomend before you go and blow abunch of money on a cat back system, just cut out the muffler and cat and section in a peice of straight pipe between the downpipe and tail pipe. if your looking for a nice throaty rumble i think you'll be happy with it.
exhaust pipe is quite cheap a ten foot section can be picked up for about 15 -20 bucks at any muffler shop, and maybe 10 bucks for a few clamps.
if im not mistaken 86 is fuel injected right? if so does it have the 2 peice exhaust manifolds or a single log manifold?
The heartthrob set up is a total waste of money. I tried the dual rear exit set up from JCWhitney on my 95 I6 and it sucked, didn't fit at all and sounded like crap. I went down to the local muffler shop, had them put a walker downpipe in then run it back and into a flowpro muffler and then dual out the rear. I have a great rumble at idle and when I get on it, it sounds like a non-turbo diesel.
