My 94....question

My new truck I have - 1994 F150 Flareside Shortbox 302 5-speed - needs something down with the exhaust. It's quiet. My question is....are the exhaust systems stock clamped or welded? I haven't been underneath it to look, and I got to thinking when talking to a kid down the hall here in the dorm. I think if the muffler can be unclamped and removed leaving it dumping right there, then I'd be fine with it until I can get my exhaust done. I'm running tight on money right now (college kid, go figure) so I can't go get my exhaust dualed out quite yet.

So...basically is my muffler clamped in, or is it welded? If its welded...I'll just have to find a sawzall or somthing...

I've decided on my exhaust when I finally have it done right - 2.5" pipes back from the manifolds with 18"+ glasspacks and 4x24" stainless steel angle cut tips out the back. This that I want to do is a temporary solution...

Ok, so the muffler has a clamp right in front of it, and then it goes all the wa to the tailpipe off of the muffler at the back. So I'm goin to disconnect the muffler, then cut it right behind the muffler so its opened up.

My question I want to know is...is this going to sound decent till I can get the money to dual the girl out? I want to be heard...and it'll be basically a straight pipe that dumps under the truck. I may get some pipe and clamp it in properly to connect the tailpipe again...its cheap.

It wont sound very good, if you decide to remove the muffler at the very least have a piece of pipe welded in to fill the gap where the muffler was. You're looking at about 30 bucks going that route and I cant tell you how it would sound but for sure it would be louder

It'd basically sound like a single-exhaust straight pipe wouldn't it?

I think I will go ahead and get some pipe to slip on there. I just need to get pipe that will slip over the engine-side pipe, and fit inside of the tailpipe-side pipe, with a pair of clamps to hold it all together right?

I like straight piped sound....

the two cats will muffle it plenty. And dual 2.5" inch exhaust is way too much for a street 302. I'd go 2" if it's stock, 2.25" if modded. You only need dual 2.5" if you're up in the 300+ HP neighborhood, which I'd say you're a ways away from at this point.
