Sorry guys.
Sincere apology to the original poster.

I am old school. Had no idea that there is no module for pats. Thought that meant he did not have a pats system.
This is why i am selling my 97 soon and daily driving a 61 f100.
Thought i was contributing to the others in this discussion when they were speaking of earlier year vehicles having pats.
I have been informed. Have a great day.

2003 Ford F-150 PATS ?

Hello everyone. This is my first post so forgive me if I didn't post in the right place, I'm hoping I did. I have a 03 F150 that hasn't ran in over 2 months. After much research online, mostly in these forums I felt like the issue is the PATS system. It turns over fine but won't fire. The theft light flashes quickly upon turning the key forward for a minute or so, although I haven't timed it. It then slows down. Also the odometer reads all dashes and the gauge needles would not sweep across and then back. I tried disconnecting the battery for a couple days, playing with the steering column. Nothing worked. I subsequently ordered a different gauge (used) cluster and have installed that in my truck. I also ordered 2 new keys which I want to marry to the new cluster. Doing a self test I get the following codes on the cluster I installed: dt 4244, dtc 9318, dtc 9601, and dtcd 262. On the original odometer the codes I got were dt 3752, dtc d2g2, and dtc 1197. I have several questions I'm hoping someone can help me with.

1. Which codes are relevant? The codes from the original cluster or the cluster I just installed? What do the codes mean and where can I find a resource that tells me what the codes mean?

2. If the PATS system is the cause of the no-start condition I currently have am I correct that all that remains is to contact a locksmith to have him program the 2 new keys to the cluster I installed?

3. If I get the keys cut at the store, is there anyway to program the keys to the gauge cluster myself? I thought I read somewhere that you can do this process yourself without a locksmith. If this is true, what do I need exactly to do this?

Thank you in advance everyone. I know it's a long winded question, but I'm far from a mechanic and I'm on a budget hoping to avoid bringing my truck to the dealership in town because in my experience they are absolute crooks.

Skip EVERYTHING else and concentrate on this, it's your "key" [pun] to the problem. You [likely] do not need a new cluster or new keys.

Swap out the PCM Power Relay, it's a common fault. Your symptom is one that indicates the PCM is not powering up (among other possible causes).

I checked the pcm power relay under the hood by swapping it with an identical relay with the same part #. Nothing changed, and the no start condition remained. Therefore I eliminated this as a possible cause. If I'm wrong please feel free to correct me.

Put the original cluster back in it and try again.

I switched them out when I had the original cluster in. It's not the pcm power relay.

Are you sure the battery is charged and ALL the cabling is clean and tight? The PATS system doesn't just spontaneously trip, there has to have been an event like a mouse chewing on wires, or water intrusion, or someone that doesn't know what they are doing monkeying with the system like an attempted theft to cause a no-start.

Batteryan is new and fully charged

Battery is good. Wiring is good. This problem occurred overnight after just having moved the truck. Nothing happened to it. Something just stopped working. Leaving the key turned forward in it now with the new cluster, I get a 1 5 code which is no communication between pcm and the original key. I think that's a good sign because I'm hoping that I just need the locksmith to program the new gauge cluster pcm to my new keys and she should start?! ANY advice before I shell out 80 for a service call would be appreciated.

Are you still getting the dashes-only on the odometer? If so, go back to my previous instruction and read it thoroughly. That display indicates that the PCM and the cluster are not talking to each other and that WILL guarantee a PATS failure 100% of the time. You must establish that communication before your truck will start. As long as that symptom is present, you are wasting time and money chasing ghosts that don't exist if you ignore that symptom. If swapping the cluster changed that symptom, you need to explicitly state so. your current lamp flash code of "15" suggests that the same symptom is present, even with the swapped cluster in place.

Look, if you don't want to take advice, don't ask for it. Since you asked for it, don't argue with it, especially if you don't understand how it works yet.
