My morning paper tells me that Ford has a recall that goes beyond the door latch problem. According to the article there is a coolant leak that can lead to fires. The article notes that the problem effects TCs up through 2015. But later the article states that the motors involved are turbo charged. I don't think my engine has a turbo and so I'm wondering if I will be getting a recall notice????
It's on the 1.6 Turbo motors. I don't pay too much attention to recall notices until I get one in the mail. I get the emails from Ford on all the recalls (a few per week) and generally just see what the basics are and move on.
This particular one is 17S09 and is only for the 1.6 EB motors in TC, Escape, Fiesta St.
They are doing the repair on 100% of those vehicles with an expected issue rate below 5%. (not all with the 1.6, but all with the 1.6 between certain dates, June 13 2013-Dec 14, 2014 for the TC)
Basically if you get a coolant leak and then overheat the engine it could cause a pressurized oil leak that could spray on the manifold and cause a fire. So.... several stupid human tricks between failure and fire on this one (ignoring temp gauges)
Thanks Frantz. Autos come with bells and whistles for just about everything---maybe Ford should do a teakettle whistle for a heated engine? Something for people who not pay attention to gauges and such.
